Woodbridge resident Kelechi Uzodinma, 61, has been arrested after 51-year-old Heliodoro Luna-Perez was struck and killed over the weekend in Woodlawn.

At approximately 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, officers from the Fairfax County Police Department responded to the intersection of Richmond Highway and Brevard Court, where there was a report of a pedestrian who was struck by a Lexus.

Upon arrival, officers found Luna-Perez in the roadway after he was struck attempting to cross the highway outside of a crosswalk.

The Alexandria resident was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Investigators say that Uzodinma was driving a 2015 Lexus GS 350 south on Richmond Highway when he struck Luna-Perez. Uzodinma was tracked by police and found approximately two miles from the crash scene.

Uzodinma was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run. He's being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on a $2,500 bond.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, though alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
